Sourceforge cvs-server in trouble?

I'm having trouble running cvs update and cvs checkout on the nagios 
dist at sourceforge.

Is this a known issue (no notes about it at sourceforge site), or am I 
the only one experiencing it?

I get

$ cvs -d:pserver:anonymous at cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/nagios login
Logging in to :pserver:anonymous at cvs.sourceforge.net:2401/cvsroot/nagios
CVS password: <pressing enter here>
cvs [login aborted]: unrecognized auth response from 
cvs.sourceforge.net: M PserverBackend::PserverBackend() Connect 
(Connection refused)

I've tried with cvs versions 1.12.5 and 1.11.5, but none seem to work.
