<p>The Clickatell API is essentially putting the message into a URL and using wget to post it.</p>
<p>The 3G modem would just be a way to route your Internet via an out-of-band service so you can receive SMS's when your normal internet goes down.</p>
<p>I expect the API would allow for queueing of SMSs, it's a much easier solution than running a bank of SMS gateways yourself.</p>
