Occasionally we get this message and the nagios displays go stale for days. However Nagios is running! On occasions I found that temporary directories used by nagios are deleted. I am not sure who deletes these. Perhaps some nagios clean up process? Perhaps Redhat's zealous clean-up process? I could relocate to a different set of temp directories. However it wont help if Nagios itself is responsible for the deletion. Any clues? Here is a piece of the nagios.cfg referencing this temporary directory: # TEMP FILE # This is a temporary file that is used as scratch space when Nagios # updates the status log, cleans the comment file, etc. This file # is created, used, and deleted throughout the time that Nagios is # running. temp_file=/var/tmp/nagios/nagios.tmp # STATE RETENTION FILE # This is the file that Nagios should use to store host and # service state information before it shuts down.
