I have used bigbrother many times. But recently when I tried to deply BB to monitor nearly 300 hosts, it just hung-- incorrect display, surge of lot of false mails. I realised that BB is not that scalable and I deployed nagios. There are some things which I would like to know. I have configured nagios for 2 hosts by giving the host entries in hosts.cfg. How do I enter 300 hosts in that file... is there a simpler way to do that-- like can I give the whole network IP range to nagios to monitor?. Specifying the whole define{ .. } section for every hosts is very time consuming. I do get the mail alerts for the two hosts configured. But I do not see those hosts in the GUI config. Also, even if I login giving giving correct username and password in the GUI, I always see "Logged in as ?" on every page top corner.
