Andrew, I'll offer two simple solutions to your question (we use both).  MNTOS reaches out to the Tactical Overview CGI and pulls in the high-level status of each of the defined Nagios servers and displays it on a web page as shown:

The second solution is a Windows Desktop utility that runs as an icon in your System Tray called NagStaMon:
