Hiding hostgroups, but still referencing them

I've got some scripts that do a wget in order to receive data from a hostgroup. The hostgroup I'm using is an artificial, really big group that is of no use to anyone except to get said report.

Is there any way to hide this hostgroup on the display, yet still access it for data? The usual advice for hiding a hostgroup is just to use a 'register 0', but then the wget doesn't return anything when referencing it.

Thanks for any pointers...
