Nagios installation error

[nag ios]

Hi everyone ,
                       I am trying to install nagios is rhel 4.5 but when i
have run the command in the extracted  directory only..

                   ./configure  --prefix=/usr/local/nagios

i am getting an error as

configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH


Please help me
