When does Nagios execute orphaned service check?

Hello all.

I would like to ask a question about orphaned service check in nagios 2.5.

In the source code, orphaned service check seems to be executed whenever nagios program restarts.
But I have exprienced an orphaned service check during the regular operation.

Acutually, when does this check occur?
