Monitoring traffic

Hi,

I'd need to keep traffic on a UMTS router monitored, i.e. I'd need to set up 
something that counts bytes passed and gives an alarm when a particular 
thresold is reached.

The router gives no SNMP information about it.

Is there any other way to do that with nagios?
