check_clamd using named pipe

Is there a way to get check_clamd to talk to clamd using the named pipe
rather than TCP/IP?  As far as I can see from the documentation it isn't
possible, but perhaps I've missed something.

Alternatively, is there another way to do it that doesn't involve me
having to extend the current implementation?
