Nagios to monitor job progress?

Todd, there a probably multiple ways to skin this issue. One that
occurs using nrpe and a custom script to parse the logfile.
The nsclient++ supports custome scripts pretty well

Another approach would be to add a passive service and a notificaion
into the batch process that updates the status at various times.
