check snmp interface monitoring

I want to setup Nagios to send out a alert when a interface is down. I am having a problem setting the critical threshold. This is what I am using right now

./check_snmp -c1 -H x.x.x.x -P 2c -C public -o ifAdminStatus.1

SNMP OK - 1 | IF-MIB::ifAdminStatus.1=1

I was trying to have it go critical if the returned value is 1. This was just a test to see if it would give me a critical for being up. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

1=up
2=down
3=testing

Thanks
