Which version of Nagios to use

Dear All,
 
I am starting a greenfield Nagios implementation on Solaris 10. I assume I am to use Nagios 3.0.4 as opposed to 2.12
Is 3.0.4 considered as stable as 2.12? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
