checking by MAC address instead of IP address

I've read in some of the documentation that services can be checked by
MAC address (as well as  AIM and street address?).

 

I have tried setting this up as

 

define host{

        use             windows-server

        host_name       <host name>

        _mac_address    <ma:c :ad:dr:es:s >

        }

 

 

 

But I get a invalid hostname/address error

 

Am I defining the host incorrect, or ??
