I'm running Fedora myself, and generally prefer RPM-based application
installations over compiling from source.  However, compiling Nagios is
trivial - you may want to give it a try since it's just download, unpack,
configure, make all, and then the appropriate installation command(s).  I
don't think I even needed any additional devel packages beyond whatever
happened to already be on the server.
