Return code 255 and flapping services on Solaris9

Ok, I'll try the dig command a 100 times..

But, i dont think nagios uses lookups when it runs the check_by_ssh
plugin.
In the nagios setup i have defined the hosts as follows :

define host{
        use                     solaris-server
        host_name               khk23dso2.ip.tdk.dk
        alias                   DNS Server
        address                 172.17.4.37
        }

define host{
        use                     solaris-server
        host_name               khk23dso3.ip.tdk.dk
        alias                   DNS Storage
        address                 172.17.4.84
        }

If i give khk23dso3.ip.tdk.dk the same ip address as khk23dso2.ip.tdk.dk
in the
host definition file, it works fine.

I'm just trying to find out what the difference is when i run the
check_by_ssh manually
and when it is done by nagios. But something must be wrong in
khk23dso3.ip.tdk.dk.

You missed the thrust of my question.

If you try, with dig or nslookup, and therefore no local caching, to
look that domain up 100 times, will you get 100 hits?

Same question *with* local caching.

We're about reliability on this question, I think.

Cheers,
