I have no idea what you might have done to make it return 9. The error
code 9 is EBADF (Bad file descriptor) in C, which you'd get if you'd
forgotten to open a file-descriptor (or socket) before trying to read
it. Could you post your perl plugin to the list? I'm sure it'd help
in debugging this issue.
