Checks on active and passive hosts

All:
I have two hosts; one is active and one is passive providing DNS
services. The passive hosts doesn't allow icmp checks and only comes
alive when the active host is down. What I want is to check both hosts
if they are alive (check_host_alive) but do not want alerts to be sent
out for the passive host. Is this possible ?
