My counter to this is that the OP appears to need hand-holding to
upgrade. The longer he waits, and as more of us move to Nagios-3, the
more difficult it will be for him to get specific answers to questions
about the upgrade.

My suggestion would be to install nagios-2 in a different directory,
copy over the log files/archives and modified configs and see what's
broken. Fix, repeat. The Changelog/What's New doccos should point out
the changes required.
