A typical nagios installation uses /bin/mail to send out notifications.
Check your notification commands to verify (usually host-notify-by-email
and service-notify-by-email). In this configuration, /bin/mail uses
whatever MTA you have running on the nagios machine (sendmail, postfix,
exim, etc) for delivery so if you need to specify a particular upstream
SMTP server that all mail must flow through you'll need to configure the
MTA to do so appropriately. When searching for MTA specific docs on this
it's usually referred to as smarthosting.
