check process ??

To check if a process is running on WHAT operating system?

check_proc in the standard plugins distribution does linux.

search nagiosexchange.org for other plugins if this does not suit your 
needs.

If checking processes on remote machines you need a remote execution 
method like nrpe or nsca.
