nagios on solaris chewing CPU

Hi,
I am running Nagios v2.7 on Solaris 10 (installed from Blastwave) and it
is causing a lot of kernel activity such that the machine has few cycles
left for anything else. I know it is Nagios because if I stop Nagios
then the kernel activity reduces to normal. Sample output from top is
below and attached is our main nagios config file. I don't know if this
is a bug or a configuration error or just a natural consequence of
monitoring ~ 300 hosts. Any clues or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers
Murray
