If you do end up deciding to forgo host checks, you can make nagios reset
the current state.  Just turn off retention and restart Nagios (remember to
re-enable it again later).  Another way is to delete the individual
HOST/SERVICE lines from the status file in the .../nagios/var/ directory.
Using the latter may cause wierd results in availibility reports until the
data has aged out into archives beyond your report range.  We rarely use the
report functionality, so this is not an issue for us.
