Notifications

Marc,

Thanks for being a second pair of eyes. The problem was in the
contacts.cfg file, there were no service_notification_options
configured.

This leads me to the next question. If the service_notification_options
are mandatory, why didn't the nagios -v nagios.cfg error out?

Thanks!

Mike

Not necessarily. Only if a service reaches a hard critical state after
restart and you have properly configured notifications for that service
and its contacts.

This is not sufficient to receive notifications. You must also configure
proper notification options for the service and its contacts. Have you
done so? Relevant config snippets? Also my experience with this is that
state retention trumps initial notifications. For example, if a service
was in a hard-down state before restart and was still in a hard-down
state after restart, I do not receive a new notification for that
service.
