The RAID adapter comes with a driver (always) and a configuration 
utility (most of the time). If your adapter has such a diagnostic/config 
software, you can write a small script that queries the status and 
awks/greps/... the output to retrieve the RAID status.

We do this for IBM ServeRaid (ipssend[.exe]) HostRaid (hrconf[.exe]) and 
LSI1030 (cfg1030[w.exe]) adapters under both Linux [and windows] and it 
works great.
