Enable performance data and use check_http --

$ ./check_http  -H www.google.com
HTTP OK HTTP/1.0 200 OK - 2742 bytes in 0.065 seconds
|time=0.065151s;;;0.000000 size=2742B;;;0

Alternately, there are other tools that do this kind of thing as well;
cricket and smokeping come to mind.
