remote host checks for Microsoft and *nix

Guys/Gals,

   Had a small lil query. Have seen couple of remote check plugins for both
MS and *nix. Wanted to know the most mature and usable plugin project for
implementation in our network from both and MS and *nix perspective.   Is
anyone using this in production...and what do you think about the
functionality of the same.

   Any suggestions would be appreciated.
