I want to thank both of you for answering my question. Deleting all
*.dat files is to drastic I think. This will also delete the
comments.dat and downtime.dat file. Afaik they don't have anything to do
with reporting. Did some more RTFM (now that I know where to look) and
did come up with the following:
nagios-dir=/usr/local/nagios
stop nagios
rm $nagios-dir/var/nagios.log
rm $nagios-dir/var/archives/*.loh
m status.dat
rm retention.dat
Do NOT delete the following .dat files in dir $nagiosd-ri/var:
downtime.dat
comments.dat
Not totally sure about the following -- think they can be removed.
host-perfdata.dat ; default not enabled/created.
service-perfdata.dat; default not enabled/created
