parallel host check

Hi there!

Is there any sercet way to parallelize active host checks?
I have about 600 host (ethernet bridges) and I have to check every 10 
minutes for host faults.
Is there any over ways to get actual results (it is veery useful for 
me to know, if host is down or unreachable)without using active host 
checks?
