[RETENTION FILE ISSUE] Retention file not being updated?

Hi there!

I am running into a little issue with retention setup here, and i wish
to know if there is anybody out there that is experiencing something
related to retention config/ retention file updates.

Out of nowhere, an alert appears on Service Status Details page on
Central Nagios server, showing an alert with long duration, even when
the last check service status on distributed monitoring host is in an OK
state. At the retention file, the status is what appears on Service
Status Details. But at the distributed Nagios, that espcifically check
is OK.

I am using:
 retain_state_information=1
 state_retention_file=/usr/local/nagios/var/retention.dat
 retention_update_interval=60
 
But even indicating 60 seconds for retention file udpates, i am not
getting the retention file writen by the Nagios process. The file
permissions are fine, so i think it is something to do with the new
release.

Env: 
 Nagios 2.1, Central Nagios running on SuSE9.3, 
 Nagios 1.X Distributed Nagios running on SunOS 5.8
