check_by_ssh inconsistency

I am having a very strange occurrence with check_by_ssh.

When I run the following on the client linux box that I am monitoring:
./check_disk -w 20 -c 10 -p /emageon/archive/dicom/version

I get the following results:
DISK OK - free space: /emageon/archive/dicom/version 30855 MB (96%);|
/emageon/archive/dicom/version=1148MB;31983;31993;0;32003

When I run the following command from nagios using check_by_ssh to the same
client linux box:
./check_by_ssh -H 172.30.106.31 -C '/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_disk -w
20 -c 10 -p /emageon/archive/dicom/version'

I get the following results:
DISK CRITICAL - free space: /emageon/archive/dicom/version 0 MB (0%);|
/emageon/archive/dicom/version=-958290462MB;-958290482;-958290472;0;-958290462

What am I missing? Does the check_disk command need a permission change of
some sort?
It is working for several other filesystems on the linux system without
issue.

Thanks,
