Running status.cgi from command line

I'm planning on running Nagios from a box that doesn't have
a web server. (per-se) I *can* open a port (12345) and put
an entry in /etc/xinetd.d where it points to a script that
will call ie: echo "hostgroup=all&style=summary" | status.cgi

All I get is: I'm guessing you're trying to execute the CGI
from a command line. In order to do that, you need to set the
REQUEST_METHOD environment variable to either "GET", "HEAD",
or "POST". When using the ... yada yads ....

Ok ... export REQ...
nope
set it to HEAD
nope
Ok, then...
nope
$@$& !%#$ $!#!&
Watch it!

HELP!!!!
