monitoring printers with Nagios

Hi all,

First post on this list, please excuse my noobisms.

We are interested in using Nagios to monitor printers in our
building, and have it tell us when a printer is reporting out of
paper/toner, etc.

What would be the best way to do this? SNMP? Or can you monitor via
IPP, which can report these different alert states?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

thanks,
Scott
