Nagios 1.2 terminating unexpectedly

Hi all,

I've had to regress to Nagios 1.2 temporarily - I downloaded the source
and compiled OK, all good.

I kept the Nagios 2 files in place, but copied them to a different
directory so my /usr/local/nagios looks like this:
drwxrwxr-x    2 nagios   nagios       4096 Feb  7 14:35 bin
lrwxrwxrwx    1 nagios   nagios         11 Feb  7 13:40 etc -> etc.nagios1
drwxrwxr-x    5 nagios   nagios       4096 Feb  7 15:25 etc.nagios1
drwxrwxr-x    5 nagios   nagios       4096 Jan 25 12:46 etc.nagios2
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Jan 25 15:55 libexec
lrwxrwxrwx    1 nagios   nagios         12 Feb  7 13:40 sbin -> sbin.nagios1
drwxrwxr-x    2 nagios   nagios       4096 Feb  7 14:01 sbin.nagios1
drwxrwxr-x    3 nagios   nagios       4096 Jan 27 10:13 sbin.nagios2
lrwxrwxrwx    1 nagios   nagios         13 Feb  7 13:59 share ->
share.nagios1
drwxrwxr-x    8 nagios   nagios       4096 Feb  7 14:02 share.nagios1
drwxrwxr-x    9 nagios   nagios       4096 Jan 20 15:36 share.nagios2
drwxrwxr-x    6 nagios   nagios       4096 Feb  7 15:51 var

bin looks like this:
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           10 Feb  7 14:35 nagios -> nagios.1.2
-rwxr-xr--    1 nagios   nagios     208048 Feb  7 14:01 nagios.1.2
-rwxr-xr--    1 nagios   nagios     352044 Feb  3 13:30 nagios.2.0b1
-rwxr-xr--    1 nagios   nagios     741487 Feb  3 13:30 nagios.cvs.20050203

So i've got the files co-existing. The config files in etc.nagios1
verify OK and Nagios daemonizes OK. However after a few minutes it just
terminates silently, no output to the log file or anything.

Has anyone got any ideas for me to try??

Thanks,
--
