check ssh plugin

Hi,

Is there a good check_ssh script to check if a remote server is actually
responding to ssh?  I've been seeing a few of my servers respond to
pings but not ssh and when in fact you try to access the server via
console the server had a bunch of i/o errors.  But the server was still
responding to pings.  I need a plugin that will tell me if the server is
really up other than just responding to pings.  I would like to use ssh
as a means to verify if the server is really up.

I've checked the check_by_ssh plugin which I'm not to crazy about using.

Are there any others?
