To re-word the FAQ, Nagios just passes the value of host_address to the
plugin without any manipulation or interpretation. That means that the
plugin that you are using must understand and be able to use the value
that is being provided to it. None of the standard plugins use MAC
address as an addressing mechanism that I am aware of. You would need to
write (and contribute =)) a suitable plugin that accepted a MAC address
as an argument and did something useful with it. I am not aware of any
pre-existing plugins that do this.
