Nagios with a large number of services

It's good to know that there are already interface re-design projects underway; however, it's unfortunate that I'll have to re-code all of my in-house edits to the existing interface. :P

Is there any publicly available data regarding the limits of the interface? I.e. what are good ceiling values for hosts and services, while maintaining a still usable user interface?

Not really, no. The good news is that such projects are already started.
