passive checks problems

Dear all,

I have a service defined as such:

# Service definition
define service{

         host_name                       venus
         service_description             SSH
         is_volatile                     0
         check_command                   check_ssh!22
         max_check_attempts              3
         normal_check_interval           5
         retry_check_interval            1
         active_checks_enabled           0
         passive_checks_enabled          1
         check_period                    24x7
         parallelize_check               1
         obsess_over_service             0
         check_freshness                 0       ; should activate
         event_handler_enabled           1
         flap_detection_enabled          0
         process_perf_data               1
         retain_status_information       1
         retain_nonstatus_information    1
         notification_interval           120
         notification_period             24x7
         notification_options            w,u,c,r
         notifications_enabled           1
         contact_groups                  linux-admins
         }

Note that I do not use the generic-service template, as I do not want active check
for this service/host.

Now, from the nagios log file:

[1095931732] EXTERNAL COMMAND: PROCESS_SERVICE_CHECK_RESULT;venus;SSH;0;SSH OK -
OpenSSH_3.5p1 (protocol 1.99)

[1095931762] SERVICE ALERT: venus;SSH;CRITICAL;HARD;1;Socket timeout after 10 seconds

Nagios gets the passive check ok, but still it looks like it's running a active
check from this host.

Why is that SERVICE ALERT there, and how do I fix it ?
