Dear all,

I need assistance with a minor problem please.

I have set up distributed monitoring. I have a main monitoring server which
does 99% of the monitoring with active checks. There is however 2 servers on an
outside network, thus I read through the documentation to see what to do.

I don't have any *problems* as such, just the following 2 things that is bothering
me...

1) As I have a lot of hosts defined on my main server, I use the following to
check ping for me:

# Service definition
define service{
use generic-service ; Name of service
template to use

         host_name *
         service_description PING
  ...

Now, this has one minor draw back, it fails on trying to ping the 2 servers on the
outside world.

2) The other issue that I have is that the 'host' is reported as down, since the
'check-host-alive' script is active I assume. I don't know how to feed it passive
data. Or should I take that line out and let it assume the host is up based on
whether the services is running ?

Any help appreciated.
