How to differentiate acknowledgement notifications

I am wondering if there is a way to easily control acknowledgement
notifications amongst contact(s) similar to the  w,u,c,r
notification_options.

The problem is that I have some contacts defined for escalations where only
unresolved Down/Critical notifications are sent, no recovery notifications
to be sent to this contact.  The escalation routine seems to consider
acknowledgements as part of the total notification count, so sometimes the
acknowledgement notification gets sent as the escalated email.

For example:

Notify #       Contact
----------------------------------------
1-3            Standard
4 -            Standard, Escalation

If 3 notification cycles pass and then the operator acknowledges it,
notification #4 is the acknowledgement email.  This acknowledgement email
gets sent to the escalation contact.
