help with cfg's

/root (as indicated above) is certainly not the appropriate directory
for that file. It should be in /usr/local/nagios/etc. The proper way to
start nagios is '/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -d
/usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg' or use the init script. You should,
however, run '/usr/local/nagios/bin/nagios -v
/usr/local/nagios/etc/nagios.cfg' to verify your configuration first
before attempting to daemonize it.
