Hi,

thank you for all the hints I received. In the ps table I saw that a lot of 
"zombied" nagios processes. After this discovery I did not have the energy to 
go into a detailed search. So I  decided to upgrade to 1.2.

Now everything works fine as expected. Thanks again. Nagios is great !
