Problem receiving notifications

So, after using the version of Nagios in portage rather than compiling it from source, it worked with the exact same configs (no idea..)

I now have it setup with a simple ping check for testing purposes and it appears to be working - if I unplug the device, it goes critical, plug it back in, goes back to green. All looks good.

However, I setup an email notification for testing purposes - tried two different addresses and I'm not receiving them.

The log says:

[1100885497] HOST NOTIFICATION: Simon;testmodem;DOWN;check_ping;CRITICAL - Plugin timed out after 10 seconds

The web interface says:

testmodem N/A HOST UP 11-19-2004 11:35:51 Simon check_ping PING OK - Packet loss = 0%, RTA = 22.27 ms
testmodem N/A HOST DOWN 11-19-2004 11:31:37 Simon check_ping CRITICAL - Plugin timed out after 10 seconds

under notifications sent...

But I never receive the notification. What method does Nagios use for sending and is there anything anywhere that needs to be configured to allow it? (No ports are currently blocked on the server except 137-139.)

Thanks for any hints/tips/URLs to FM's :)
