Nagios and DB support.

I use Nagios for alerting and NRG for graphing with RRDtool.  I prefer it
that way
because of simplicity and reliability.  NRG manages config and RRD files
for you,
unlike Nagios (and MRTG), therefore it doesn't add to my config file
burden.
I haven't yet tried to do alerting with Nagios on RRD's with threshholds
yet though.

I think to try to make Nagios replace a good SNMP graphing app *and*
service
and host monitor might make it neither.  I don't see any reason someone
could not write a configuration interface for Nagios where a check box
could be
provided that would add a switch or router to NRG and provide a link to it
on the Nagios
page if both apps were installed on the same box.  But I'm not sure what
definite advantage
this would provide other than bragging rights that it is an "integrated"
system.  Just
my $.02.
