checking remote processes

Hi!

Perhaps you are confused, because of the fact you can do the same with 
nsca and nrpe. the big differnce between these two tools is following:

NRPE is an active check, it's triggered from nagios
NSCA is used for passive checks, nagios gets the result without any 
triggering.

So you can decide, which way of monitoring sweets best.
