All/James/Marc,

I compiled the software myself...no packages.

I had been overlooking those command definitions in the command.cfg file.
The commands were using printf with a pipe to mail.
The problem was what James said.  I removed almost all of the escaped quotes
and it seems to behave appropriately now.

If he's using the dag rpm builds etc may be elsewhere (like /etc/nagios)..
