Writing to Nagios.cmd

Hello, 

I am trying to have a shell script insert service comments and was
wondering if anyone has done this type of thing before. 

Something like : 
echo "ADD_SVC_COMMENT;hostname1;Warnings;1;admin;Comment_Test" >>
nagios.cmd

Would that work or is it more complicated then that.
