NRPE and firewalls

I can't seem to find any past postings on this topic however I'm sure they 
exist. I am using the default port 5666 and I've allowed any source port to 
destination 5666 on both TCP and UDP (however I believe TCP is what is 
used). I am able to telnet from the Nagios box to the destination NRPE 
client on port 5666 and get a response, however my nrpe plugins are giving me:
NRPE: Unable to read output

Any suggestions?
