checking POP (and IMAP) via SSL?

Hi,

I want to verify that POP and IMAP via SSL are working
correctly.

Can I use check_pop & check_imap to do this?

I know I can use these to verify a socket connection,
    % ./check_imap -H my_mail_server -p 993 -t 5
    Socket timeout after 5 seconds

    % ./check_pop -H my_mail_server -p 995 -t 5
    Socket timeout after 5 seconds
but I think this is an incomplete check.

Is there a better way to do this?

Maybe I just need to send more data via the -s flag...

Thx
