I think we are on autopilot, sadly.  List posting doesn't seem to be restricted to list membership, as evidenced by the spam posted to the list from names which hardly seem likely to have actually *subscribed*.

A well-run list would restrict posting to list members only, and when a member of the list started posted autoreplies to the list, they would be removed.  If the list owner is reading any of this, he/she would do well to consider this.... :-)
